Booker gets Pucka

Article Abstract:

A major restructuring programme has paid dividend in the fortune of UK-based cash and carry group Booker, which streamline its core businesses and is currently seeking acquisition deals to expand into specialist areas. Up to 11 individual divisions were disposed of by Booker between May 1997 and July 1999, the largest being the Prepared Foods Division which was sold for $94.4 million in May 1997. The restructuring programme has made Booker very attractive to potential investors.

Article Abstract:

Growth in the US technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector continues to show little sign of a slow down during 1999, with the number of mergers and acquisitions deals rising. The largest TMT deal struck from January 1999 to September 1999 was the $69,897 million takeover of cable television operator Tele-Comms by telecommunications giant AT&T during March 1999. The US market is being driven by the need for convergence at all levels of the TMT operation.
