Carrier invests in comfort: Singapore Airlines seeks long-term payoff

Article Abstract:

Singapore Airlines has announced that it will make significant capital investments in improving the comfort of its planes despite the Asian economic crisis that has significantly constricted cash flows. The airline reports that it has spent two years in planning for such an investment and analysts predict that the airline is doing the right thing. Analysts warn however, that the airline may realize returns on its investments only when the Asian economy starts to rebound.

Trade takes wing at Asia's airports

Article Abstract:

Asian-Pacific airports are branching into varied commercial operations to raise revenue. Some are building tourist attractions or investing in other companies, but most are placing more emphasis on retailing inside the airport. Many airlines are upset with these practices and are questioning airport priorities.
