Change of plans at Stonehenge

Article Abstract:

English Heritage will not hold an open competition for the design of a new visitor centre for the Stonehenge ancient monument. An open competition had been intended because of the international importance of Stonehenge which is a World Site. However, English Heritage have now decided to choose an architect from a shortlist of six practices. The reason is to give the scheme a greater chance of success at the public inquiry to be held in spring 1993. Outline planning permission for the development has been refused.
