Preaching a durable security in Asia

Article Abstract:

Admiral Dennis Blair, United States leader of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Regional Forum, wants to develop security communities in Asia in order to force countries to find resolutions to problems without going to war. Blair's plans include earmarking financial assistance for peacekeeping programs as well as defense, incorporating multilateral military exercises, and strengthening communications with the armed forces.

China's sea since 'time immemorial.'(South China Sea is a hot spot in Asia)(Editorial)

Article Abstract:

China is aggressively pursuing its expansion interests in the South China Sea, claiming that the sea is part of its sovereign territory. Although China contends that it will not seek hegemony, other Southeast Asian countries are worried that China may try to move into contested areas.

South China Sea is Asia's depreciating asset

Article Abstract:

Six Asian countries claim rights to overlapping parts of the South China Sea, and their refusal to cooperate may be detrimental to the area's ecosystem. Unregulated fishing and industrial development are drastically depleting fish stocks and destroying plant life such as reefs and mangrove forests.
