Courts reject bids to block Arcelor-Mittal deal

Article Abstract:

Courts in France and the Netherlands have rejected minority shareholder requests for injunctions against Arcelor S.A. and Mittal Steel Company N.V. The shareholders state they are being coerced into accepting low offers in Mittal Steel's $41 bil buyout of the remaining Arcelor shares. The courts have stated the request is outside of their jurisdiction.

Arcelor hastens a flurry of Russian steel activity

A flurry of consolidation activity in the steel industry through foreign investment is forecast in Russia. The trend has been planted by the Arcelor S.A. of France plan to purchase Severstal of Russia.
