Google in talks to buy YouTube for $1.6 billion: deal could put search giant in top spot for online video; a front door for Web visits

Google Inc. is proposing to acquire online-video firm YouTube Inc. for $1.6 billion, although rival companies have also expressed interest. YouTube was started last year by young entrepreneurs Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. Customers view videos more than 100 million times per day on YouTube.

Google looks to boost ads with YouTube

Google Inc. hopes that its recent acquisition of YouTube Inc. for $1.65 billion will lead to increased online advertising and online video services. Customers view videos over YouTube over 100 million times per day. The YouTube acquisition was the largest to date for Google.
