Article Abstract:

The largest financial group in Denmark is to be formed by BG Bank and the mortgage lending institute Realkredit Danmark. Assets total DKr 529.8bn (USD 77bn), compared with DKr 526.8bn for Den Danske Bank, which is the largest financial group at present. According to a press release, BG Bank and Realkredit Danmark will develop a close co-operation through establishing a joint holding company. They will continue operating under separate names and retain their separate brands.

Austria: Merger of Tyrolean banks

Article Abstract:

The Austrian based North Tyrolean Hypobank building society gave the Tyrolean provincial government documents which it claims proves "mafia-style intrigue" in the attempts to merge the South Tyrolean Sparkasse bank and the North Tyrolean Hypobank. Following public comments made by the director of the Hypobank, Arthur Thoni, to that effect, the bank had until 14 December 2001 to prove the allegations.

DENMARK: INCREASED LENDING BY BANKS

Article Abstract:

In Denmark, total lending by banks grew by Dkr8.4bn in February to DKr536.2bn compared with January. Lending by mortgage banks rose by DKr6.8bn to DKr1,108.6bn.
