Deal may have silver lining for BAe: French-German pact to spur Airbus revamp

British Aerospace PLC (BAe) could benefit from the DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG-Aerospatiale Matra SA merger, though the merged companies will become Europe's largest aerospace firm. The merger could make it easier to restructure Airbus Industrie from a consortium into a stand-alone company, and that is a move that BAe, which owns 20% of Airbus, has long advocated.
