Defending South Korea

Article Abstract:

Notwithstanding the recent announcement by the United States of its decision to withdraw one third of its troops from South Korea, the United States remains committed as ever to its decision for defending this Asian country against the aggression of North Korea. Towards this end, the US is supplementing the armory of its remaining forces in the region with more sophisticated firearms. It may be recalled that the Korean War was fought between the North and South Korea.

Why Bush acted on Taiwan

Article Abstract:

The United States intervention in Taiwan's referendum calls that will result in the island's independence from the mainland China is delineated. The Bush administration sees the proposed referendum by Taiwan's president Chen Shui-bian for domestic political purposes will disturb the peaceful status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

How to deal with Pyongyang

The author, director of Asian studies at the Heritage Foundation, contends that the U.S. must not give in to North Korea's demand for direct negotiations. The issue is a regional one, and all the nations in the region should help resolve it, especially China and Russia.
