Denmark: Authority upsets the SMS development

Article Abstract:

Danish telecoms operators have postponed a new trade agreement regarding expensive SMS services due to the criticism levelled by National Consumer Agency of Denmark saying that the expensive SMS messages in several aspects conflict with Danish telecoms laws, mainly the law of remote sales. According to Peter Fogh Knudsen of the National Consumer Agency, an SMS message does not live up the the requirement of a lasting medium and has no space for all the necessary information. Without the new trade agreement, it will not be possible to sell other products than ringing tones and logos to mobile phones at the cost of DKr10 at the most.
