Disquiet in the country

Article Abstract:

The Henry Moore Studio in Halifax, England, is staging an installation by Sicilian artist Vittorio Messina. This installation, entitled 'A Village and its Surroundings,' is designed as a commentary on urbanism. The various elements, including a 1952 Eccles Coronet caravan partly enclosed by a structure of Thermalite-block walls, have visual interest, but Messina clearly intends them to be allusive. However, the catalogue does not give an insight into Messina's thoughts. This gives the visitor a feeling of estrangement.

Orford Ness: balancing public access with aura of mystery: the National Trust has had to take an unusual approach to managing an abandoned military research base in Suffolk

Article Abstract:

The National Trust (NT) is to open an area of marshland and shingle spit on the Suffolk coast, to the public. Orford Ness is the largest vegeted shingle spit in Europe and was a base for military research until the early 1970s. Wherever possible, the evidence of former structures have been left, although some buildings that were too flawed had to be demolished. A Second World War office building exhibition has been installed.
