Lean cuisine: European airlines cut perks following U.S. carriers' lead, many drop free booze, meals; sandwiches 'keep for days.'

Article Abstract:

Following the lead of their American counterparts, European airlines are cutting food services in order to keep costs and prices down. Snacks are replacing full free meals, and free alcoholic beverages are being discontinued. Some European airlines have also started charging for services like newspapers and large baggage check.

Duisenberg says EU prospects need to strive for Euro adoption

Article Abstract:

European Central Bank President Wim Duisenberg said nations applying for membership to the European Union must meet currency union standards and be prepared to adopt the euro. Standards on inflation, interest rates, exchange-rate stability and public finances will be examined and no exceptions will be granted to new applicants.

Luxembourg voters ratify European Union Constitution

Article Abstract:

Luxembourg has voted 56.52 percent to 43.48 percent for the European Union Constitution. Luxembourg is the 13th European country to ratify the Charter although rejections of the Charter by France and the Netherlands have thrown the question of the sovereignity of the European Union into a landscape of gray.
