EU telecom plan draws fire: effort could lead to lower costs; industry resists

Article Abstract:

The European Union is expected to announce plans to increase competition in the telecommunications industry by permitting national regulators to break up the operations of dominant operators, separating service divisions and network-infrastructure divisions. Major telecommunications firms are attempting to mitigate regulator authority by offering alternatives, such as allowing competitors to share underground cable ducts.

Strategic renewal of Europe's largest telecom operators (1992-2001): from herd behavior towards strategic choice

Article Abstract:

The rapid technological innovation, deregulation and internationalization have changed the face of the European telecommunication industry. A study of the five largest operators, Deutsche Telecom, France Telecom, British Telecom, Telecom Italia, and Telefonica in Spain and the resultant findings are presented.
