Article Abstract:

IBM supplies the equipment (Netfinity servers, Lotus Domino application server, etc.) required for a test performed in partnership with 3Com and France Telecom's mobile phone network, Itineris. The test consists in supplying the (professional) user of a Palm Pilot, with his company's computing resources (messaging, directory, etc.), via his mobile phone set. The test also includes a synchronization service which allows the user to view downloaded data whilst being unconnected. These services should be launched in the end of 2000.

In an attempt to develop its mirroring and IP remote access operations (two priorities in the company's international development), Matra Grolier Network has partnered with GTE Internetworking (GTEI). Matra Grolier Network is a French specialist in hosting and development of electronic commerce applications. The partnership helps GTEI put a foothold in France, as part of a strategy to reach such partnerships with local companies to offer its international IP services to businesses. GTEI is a US Internet provider.

FRANCE/US: ALCATEL'S HOMETOP SUITE IMPROVED

Article Abstract:

HomeTop, used to create and handle portal sites which may support any type of terminals, including WAP mobile telephone sets, is a software suite which is supposed to help implement unified messaging and electronic commerce solutions. HomeTop, designed by Alcatel, is now coming in an improved version, which Hewlett-Packard will distribute on its WAP platform.
