First pension funds directive

Article Abstract:

The European Commission released the draft form of a Pension Funds Directive that will allow pension trusts to maximize usage of Capital Movement Directives and take advantage of the liberalization of asset custody and portfolio management services in the European Community. The proposed Directive will place emphasis on the function of pension funds as financial facilities in the context of the accessibility of transboundary investment and management of pension funds. The Directive, however, does not have provisions for accessibility to transborder pension fund membership. The Directive will be applicable to all institutions with provisions for retirement and will forbid prerequisite systematic notification in the decision making duties of fund managers.
