Foretelling the Orange future

Article Abstract:

Hans Snook , United Kingdom and Europe's Managing Director for the Orange company had a diverse occupational history before joining Orange in 1994. His business philosophy which emphasizes the importance of serving the customers needs has gained 600,000 new subscribers. He has used his business acumen to finance the company which was floated on the London stock market at the beginning of 1996. His attitudes to marketing were initially derided but have been shown to be successful in encouraging new customers.

Cellnet's ring master

Article Abstract:

Howard Ford became managing director of Cellnet in Aug 1995 and he faced a number of challenges. Cellnet is 40% owned by Securicor which has been keen to sell the stake. Ford introduced Steve Rowley as a new marketing director. Rowley had previously worked at IBM. Cellnet also faces technological challenges as different technologies converge. The company has to win new subscribers and improve levels of profitability to reach those attained by Vodaphone.

The company's niche is the value added network market, which is predicted to grow to $2.2 billion by 1997. It is planning expansion into the Eurpen market, and already has a London office.
