Germany's Viag makes bid for 25% stake in EnBW

Article Abstract:

Viag AG is making an offer to acquire a 25% share of Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (EnBW). EnBW is owned by the state government. Electricite de France (EDF) has stated that it has made a bid for Baden-Wuerttemberg state's share in EnBW. VEW AG has also made a bid to acquire the share. The state wants to ensure that job positions will be maintained once any deal is reached. EDF is believed to have made a five billion marks (2.6 billion euros) offer for EnBW.

Infineon Technologies AG saw its share value decline to record lows as the semiconductor industry was hit by a report of lower forecasts from Applied Micro Circuits Corp. Siemens AG was rumored to be dumping stock in order to punish Infineon's shares.
