Getting their act together

Article Abstract:

The Estates Action Project is a five-year project to refurbish 1,000 public housing units in the Kings Cross areas of London, England. The project includes public and private funding and has a budget of 46 million pounds sterling. It involves consultation amongst many interested parties including the residents. Residents' main concerns were the quality of the housing, the inadequacy and upkeep of public spaces, and the fear of crime. The project is introducing architectural and surveillance measures to combat the area's particular problems related to prostitution and drug abuse.

Interiors and fit-outs; sensual designs for personal indulgence

Article Abstract:

UK interior designer Lorenzo Apicella has completed the changing facilities and display areas of a La Perla Fashion Group outlet called Sculpture, based in London. The shop sells ladies swimwear, lingerie and outerwear, and Apicella has tried to reflect the sensual nature of the product in the interior design. Apicella has included lots of glass and mirrors, creating light and space, with room for products to be displayed individually, in an exhibition form. There is a suspended ceiling which has been hung at uneven angles to give the impression of size.
