HMR PLANS TO DOUBLE VACCINE SALES
Article Abstract:
Hoechst Marion Roussel (India) (HMR) proposes to double the sales of its vaccines to Rs80 crore during the next five years. This will be achieved through Chiron Behring, its Indian joint venture with Chiron Corporation of the US. The tie up will be launching a new hepatitis B vaccine in 1999. It also has plans of launching other vaccines against hepatitis A and C and the MMR (mumps, measles, rubella). HMR will be selling all the vaccines produced by Chiron Behring and will be acquiring all the products produced at a transfer price. HMR proposes to invest Rs70 crore in its new facility at Verna in Goa. The new facility will be completed in three years. (ag)

INDIA ONLINE SALES SEEN AT $160 MILLION BY 2001

A market research done by International Data Corp shows that electronic commerce on the Internet in India is expected to reach $160 million by 2001 AD compared to $2.8 million in 1997. The company's research shows that online commerce in India is mostly between businesses and consumers and not business to business. Growth in online commerce will depend on the speed with which tariffs for leased circuits fall and private Internet service providers start operations. (khr)
