Hansol paper agrees deal to sell newsprint business for $1 billion

Article Abstract:

Hansol Paper Co. said it has entered into a $1-billion deal to sell its newsprint business to Norske Skogindustrier ASA of Norway and Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. of Canada. The two firms has entered into a joint-venture agreement with the Korean company to manage the business. While Hansol recorded a profit in 1997, record showed debts of 2.4 trillion won ($1.77 billion). As part of reorganization plans, Hansol Paper said it has agreed to sell its facility in Chonju, South Korea and its 53% ownership in a joint-venture in Shanghai.

Deal for Daewoo halted as parties disagree on price

Article Abstract:

Acquisition negotiations for Daewoo Electronics Corp. of South Korea by Videocon Industries Ltd. of India have broken down over differences in price. Korea Asset Mangement Corp. also of South Korea owns a 57.4 percent stake in Daewoo Electronics Corp. and is not willing to resume acquisition talks unless Videocon revises its offer.

Shinhan's offer for LG Card stake tops $7.5 billion

Shinhan Financial Group Co. of South Korea is to acquire a majority stake in LG Card Co. also of South Korea for $7.5 billion. Share bid price is $70.60. The acquisition will be the largest corporate buyout in South Korea.
