In harsh light of results, Pudong is no Shangri-La

Article Abstract:

Dismal 1994 results for three companies responsible for developing Pudong special-development zone into a financial, industrial and trade center have cast doubts not only on the viability of the zone, but on China stocks in general. While Shanghai Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone Development Co. reported 1994 earnings slightly above expectations, Shanghai Jinqiao Export Processing Zone Development Co. and Shanghai Outer Gaoqiao Free Trade Zone Development Co. reported lower-than-expected earnings for that year.
