Initiative sets the pace

Article Abstract:

The Philippines aimed to increase the relevance of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) to Apec citizens, in its year at the helm of Apec, and it has been instrumental in developing a new framework for development cooperation in Apec. The government was keen that Apec be used in the transfer of technology from richer members to poorer ones, and marine-resources conservation is at the forefront of the agenda, with the creation of the Fisheries Working Group. Also another group is working on transport problems in Asia.
