AUSTRIA/PORTUGAL: ARA EXPORTING WASTE KNOWHOW

Article Abstract:

Altstoff-Recycling-Austria (ARA) is hoping to develop consultancy into another core business in view of the fact that from year 2004 Austrian legislation will require a reduction of waste recovery. ARA's first consultancy agreement was signed in Portugal, where the Austrian company is advising the Ministry of Environment and Economics in the reform of the packaging decree and in the Sociedade Ponto Verde recovery system. ARA is also responsible for the financing and marketing of waste collection and recycling in Portugal. ARA's knowhow has aroused interest also in Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Singapore and countries seeking European Union membership. Beside consultancy services, ARA is selling a software solution for the management of packaging volumes in companies. Since ARA is not allowed to make profits, it is using the revenues from consultancy to cover its administrative costs, which amount to Sch 60mn-70mn annually.
