Zurich Financial still plans IPO of unit

Zurich Financial Services is planning to go ahead with the planned initial public offering (IPO) of Zurich Re, its reinsurance unit. Zurich Financial hopes to launch the IPO by the 2001 fourth-quarter.

ING, Zurich Financial Profits Jump

Insurance giants, ING Groep N.V.'s 2004 group net profit rose 48 percent while Zurich Financial Services AG 2004 net profit rose 29 percent to $2.59 billion. However Converium AG received heavy losses reported its business would shrink by approximately half this year.

Katrina claims could leave holders of a 'Cat Bond' with major losses

Zurich Financial Services of Switzerland has issued "catastrophe bonds" that aid in paying insurance claims from natural disasters. Kamp Re investors are out of pocket $200 million as the payout for the insurance claims from Hurricane Katrina are approximately $2 billion.
