Lawyers seek protection as writs fly

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common in the UK for professional practices, such as surveyors and accountants, to be the subject of claims for negligence. This has prompted leading accounting firms to set up publicly limited companies or to consider limited liability partnerships, thus protecting partners from uninsured claims of this nature. This trend is having a significant impact on relations between clients and their professional advisers.

Why do we seek to conserve?

Article Abstract:

It is estimated there are more than 250,000 listed buildings in the UK. Conservation is often seen as a reaction to the wholesale destruction of many areas of Britain which persisted up to the 1960's. If an area is deemed worthy of conservation it increases house prices and limits new developments nearby. There is some anxiety in the town planning profession that some local authorities are more versed in conservation practices than others.
