Learning curve

Article Abstract:

The new four-storey Boots Library designed by architectural firm ECD for Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, England, features a teardrop-shaped atrium. This is designed to bring light into the 30 mt-wide floorplate. Its glazing is a steel structure using struts and tension cables, while a long steel feature stairway connected to the side of the atrium goes from ground level up to the second floor. There is the potential to bring into use as study space a large multi-purpose enclosed area on the roof around the upper level of the atrium.

Learning to walk in Las Vegas

Article Abstract:

Las Vegas authorities are providing more facilities for pedestrians who prefer to walk in the city than travel by car, taxi or bus. Bridges and lifts are being incorporated into busy areas on the Strip to cater for those who wish to view the night attractions on foot. Walking facilities are rarely used during the day due to extremely hot weather conditions. The Fremont Street Experience, a seventy million American dollars light display in downtown Las Vegas, attracts 20,000 visitors each night.
