London Law Firms Boost Efforts To Attract and Retain Talent

Article Abstract:

London law firms are raising base pay for new associates at par with New York firms in order to prevent brain-drain into other professions such as consultancies, investment banks or Internet start-ups. S.J. Berwin and Co., Slaughter and May, and Allen and Overy started the trend in early 2000.

Clifford Chance, Rogers & Wells seal marriage

Article Abstract:

Clifford Chance and Rogers & Wells have given their approval to the proposed merger of their law firms. The merger is the first such transaction of major law firms in the US and the UK. Clifford Chance and Rogers & Wells also agreed to expand the merger to Puender Volhard Weber & Axster. The merger will go into effect on January 1, 2000. A merger with Puender would form the largest law firm in the world.
