Lucent launches $1.36 billion issue in global debut

Article Abstract:

Lucent Technologies Inc. issued 30-year bonds worth $1.36 billion in the company's first ever global bond offering. Lucent debentures carry a 6.45% coupon. They were priced at 99.461 to yield 6.491%. This comes out to approximately 0.89 percentage points above US Treasurys. According to Bear Stearns & Co., Lucent's issue represent the first time that a US company has issued a 30-year fixed-rate global bond.

Alcatel unit's tracking stock falls

Alcatel SA saw the value of its optronics unit tracking stock decline from $71.95 to $71.375 (84.69 euros) per share. The shares were priced at the low end of estimates.
