MEXICO: EDF STRENGTHENS ITS POSITION

Article Abstract:

Electricite de France (EDF), the French electricity company, is well on the way to becoming the leading independent electricity producer in Mexico, thanks to its three contracts for gaz-fueled combined cycle electrical power stations in less than two years in the north of the country: Rio Bravo with 495 megaWatts, Altamira with 495 megaWatts, and Saltillo with 247 megaWatts. Saltillo is being built and will go into service at the end of 2001. EDF points out that it will save water, by using 3 litres of water per second compared with the usual figure of 110 litres per second , which was a determining factor in awarding this contract, since the north of Mexico is a desert region.
