Mainland investment firms draw spotlight in the city

Article Abstract:

Chinese-controlled investment banks enhance their presence in Hong Kong as the number of Chinese companies seeking business exposure in the former crown colony increases. Investment banks, such as Fotic Capital Ltd, China Everbright Securities Ltd and Guangdong Securities Ltd, are helping Chinese firms to gain access to overseas capital by means of a Hong Kong listing. They are privileged to finance red-chips stocks, Hong Kong firms with strong desire to operate in China, or with powerful Chinese connections.

Barings rubble may yield personnel pearls for rivals

Article Abstract:

Rivals of Barings PLC in Asia are expected to actively recruit the failed investment bank's topnotch brokers. Sales director James Osborn and assistant sales director James Slade, who cover stocks in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, are among the most prominent Barings traders. Hong Kong-based Richard Wertheimer, Alan-Butler-Henderson and Peter Kurz, and Manila-based Ignacio Kilayko are also being eyed for recruitment by investment firms in Asia.

Analyst goes out to pasture: Michael Green is retiring, moving to Tasmania

Article Abstract:

Salomon Smith Barney's Hong Kong-based property market analyst, Michael Green, intends to quit his job and work as a sheep farmer in Tasmania, Australia. According to Green, he has been planning to retire in Tasmania for over a year since he has grown tired of his work. He expects to oversee 10,000 merino sheep once he becomes apprised of what being a shepherd means.
