Malaysia Inc.: bailout or accountability?

Article Abstract:

The Malaysian government's decision to purchase United Engineers Malaysia (UEM) for 3.8 billion ringett has left many confused about the intentions involved. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed said the move was in the public's interest, but UEM coincidentally happens to be a component of Malaysia-owned Renong, which is severely debt-ridden. The chief concern is that the government is purchasing UEM as a bailout.

The U.S. government are seeking help from Malaysia security officials regarding an anthrax-laced letter sent to a division of Microsoft Corp. from Malaysia. Malaysian officials are trying to figure out if the letter was contaminated in the country or if it arrived in Malaysia already contaminated.
