Meeting the needs of the elderly

Article Abstract:

Queen Mary's House has been converted to provide hospital facilities for elderly frail and mentally infirm patients. The former maternity hospital was built in 1922, in Queen Anne style and is situated in the Hampstead, London, England conservation area. The original building has beeen converted into communal areas while three new ward wings have been constructed. Tight funding and unforseen difficulties including the bankruptcy of the main contractor caused problems for the project but the end result is satisfactory.

Restoring the modern at last

Article Abstract:

The problem of how to repair and maintain post-war buildings has been emphasised by the proposed listing of 40 post ware industrial, commercial and railway buildings. There is a lack of contemporary guidance on the restoration of post-war buildings due to the rapidity of development of new materials and techniques and experimentation during building.
