The Pioneer, the newspaper owned by LM Thapar, is for sale. Thapar plans to sell the newspaper company, The Pioneer Ltd, to its editor, Chandan Mitra. The Pioneer started its Delhi edition 7 years ago. It has posted losses of Rs56 crore till March 1997. Advertising and sales income fell to Rs10 crore in 1996-97 from Rs12 crore in 1995-96. Chandan Mitra & Associates are likely to get the assets and liabilities worth Rs64 crore transferred, according to the first proposal. Chandan Mitra has appointed Ernst & Young for drawing a business plan and auditing the accounts of the paper. The brand name will get transferred without the liabilities, according to the latest negotiations between Thapar and Mitra. Mitra has talked to 2 industrialists for promoting the paper. (rk) >EN

Article Abstract:

A daily survey among newspaper subscribers carried out in the city of Sao Paulo is discussed. The way in which sampling was undertaken and the implementation of data collection is described. The aim was to establish direct links with the consumer, as well as ongoing dialogue with the reader. The reactions of readers were recorded with the possibility of incorporating them into the structural planning of the product.
