Optimal incentives for income-generation in universities: the rule of thumb for the Compton tax

Article Abstract:

A novel framework to model one of the key links between universities and industry, the understanding of applied research is proposed. A model of these links between universities may be able to take on sufficient extra staff to more than offset the time that existing staff are spending on non-fundamental research and thus increase the amount of fundamental research that they can achieve with a given public budget.

Assessing spillovers from universities to firms: evidence from French firm-level data

Article Abstract:

The importance of information flows from universities to innovative firms is assessed to determine the relative contribution of formal collaboration and pure knowledge spillovers in this process. The assessment revealed that they require new forms of academic knowledge that they acquire through formal cooperation with foreign universities.
