People the play's the thing

Article Abstract:

Birmingham Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Bill Alexander enjoys using different performance spaces for his productions. The 7 million pounds sterling lottery grant has helped his theatre to become more financially secure and pay for the renovation work. The building was first constructed in 1971. The refurbishment project was undertaken by Pawson Williams Architects. Alexander admits the new design does not allow for as much experimentation as he would like but he points out the audience are now able to hear and see all the performers. He has been at the theatre since 1992.
