Philippines to upgrade in Mindanao

Article Abstract:

The Asian Development Bank has extended a loan to the Dept of Transportation and Communications of the Philippines for the improvement of five airports in the islands of Mindanao and Sulu. The airport in Cotabato City is scheduled for a major upgrade including the construction of a new terminal building, apron areas and taxiways, a cargo terminal and a new control tower. Smaller upgrades are also planned for airports located in the cities of Butuan, Dipolog, Pagadian and Sanga-Sanga.

London Stansted goes for growth

Article Abstract:

BAA PLC, an airport operator based in the UK, has sought the approval of the local district council regarding the company's planned terminal extension and new satellites at London Stansted in anticipation of a boosted capacity from 8 million to 15 million annually. Once the planned project is approved, construction will commence early in 2000, with over 200 million pounds sterling in anticipated overall investment over the next five years.

New displays win favour

Article Abstract:

Airports have begun using new, innovative information display systems in providing information to passengers. The latest systems, which have become more versatile with advertising and graphichs, include interactive displays that allow passengers to select information. These displays use plasma flat panel technology to offer 160 degrees viewing angles and provide clear information display in a busy airport terminal.
