Potential replacement for Swedish Army's light tanks makes its debut

Article Abstract:

Hagglunds, in partnership with Swiss Ordnance Enterprise and Celsius, has introduced the prototype CV90120 fire-support vehicle at Eurosatory. The vehicle is being presented as a possible replacement for the Swedish Army's Ikv91 light tanks. The altered CV90 turret, featuring a Swiss Ordnance 120 CTG L50 lightweight 120mm 50-caliber gun with a vertical sliding-block breech, was fixed onto the hull in May 1998. The vehicle is set for static firing trials in December 1998. Moving firing trials involving a fully-integrated fire-control system are set to start during the middle of 1999. The CV90120 weighs 25-tonne gross, with expansion to 27 tonnes. It is powered by a Scania DS14 445kW diesel engine, which gives it a maximum speed of 70 km per hour.
