Pseudorandom number generators for supercomputers and classical computers: a practical introduction

Article Abstract:

The pseudorandom number generators for the vector computer CYBER 205 are evaluated focusing on the linear congruential generators with zero additive constant and modulus that is a power of two. The results show that pseudorandom numbers can be generated on vector computers by partitioning the multiplicative congruentional generation cycle into 2(super5) parts and utilizing only the first two parts. Four techniques in pseudorandom number generation on the CYBER 205 are compared and evaluated.

Searching for important factors in simulation models with many factors: sequential bifurcation

Article Abstract:

A new technique called 'sequential bifurcation' is used to solve the screening problem, which pertains to determining the important factors in simulation models with many simulation parameters or input variables. The efficacy of the technique lies in its success in finding all important factors despite relatively few simulation runs. A realistic case study involving a complicated simulation model called IMAGE further demonstrates the efficiency of the technique.

Verification and validation of simulation models

Article Abstract:

A survey of various aspects of verification and validation of simulation models, with emphasis on operations research models, is presented. Verification and validation ensure that simulation models are correct and thus do not lead to erroneous decisions. They require good documentation and are needed for assessment to establish credibility and gain accreditation for simulation models.
