RBS prepares new ABN offer: roughly $98 billion bid to be almost all cash; Barclays weighs move

Article Abstract:

Royal Bank of Scotland PLC and its partners, Dutch-Belgian firm Fortis N.V. and Spain's Banco Santander Central Hispano S.A., plan to offer a new bid for Netherlands bank ABN AMRO Holding N.V. The bid is expected to be a nearly all-cash offer valued at $98.03 bil. The group bay withhold about one euro per share to cover the legal costs involved in ABN's selling of its US LaSalle bank unit.

Sumitomo is set to detail plans for an alliance with Goldman
