Converium will ask shareholders to fund $240 million in capital

Swiss reinsurance company Converium Holding AG has discontinued talks with potential investor Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Instead, the company is turning to its shareholders to raise a chunk of its much-needed capital. Recent losses at Converium's U.S. operations has prompted plans at the company for a full withdrawal from the U.S.

AMP's U.K. spinoff is cleared

AMP Ltd.'s planned spinoff of its businesses in the United Kingdom has been approved. The spinoff will make Australian-based AMP a primarily wealth management firm with 41 billion euros in funds under management.
