Ringing the changes

Article Abstract:

Graystone is a UK group with interests in a number of areas including distribution and engineering. Dick Richardson is the chief executive and chairman of the group, which has announced a share issue to fund the purchase of Ring Group which distributes automobile supplies and electrical goods. The acquisition helps Richardson achieve his aim of focusing Graystone in engineering. Richardson also aims to increase Graystone's turnover to 200 million pounds sterling annually by 1997.

Newcastle upon Tyne: waiting for the boat to come in

Article Abstract:

Newcastle upon Tyne is an industrial center in northeastern England which has been successful in attracting investment following a decline in heavy industry. There are over 33 Japanese firms in the region and they have created nearly 8,000 jobs. A factory owned by Nissan has 4,076 employees. There are 7 theaters and 14 cinema screens in Newcastle. The Gateshead shopping center has been successful despite the caution of locals who argued it would not achieve this.

The company's key business areas are pensions, housing and local authorities and include subsidiary Image Systems Europe, which has won new orders valued at more than 2.5 million pounds sterling in 1999.
