The Austrian telecom equipment company Memorex is planning to set up a network of third-generation mobile phone masts throughout Austria and offer them on a hire basis to all the country's six UMTS licence holders. Last financial year Memorex made an operating profit of Sch 34mn on a turnover of about Sch 300mn.

The US company targets mainly telecom companies, internet access providers and application service providers as well as big companies and the public administration.
