Small funds face closure

Article Abstract:

Templeton Franklin Investment Services (Asia) Ltd and Jardine Fleming Investment Management Ltd are closing at least 16 small mutual funds in Hong Kong. The two firms cited management cost as the main reason on their decision to shutdown such funds. Templeton Franklin is closing down six funds while Jardine Fleming is closing down 10 funds. The closure reflects the declining popularity of sector funds in Asia which can be partly attributed to their extreme volatility during the past two years of regional crisis.
