Thailand cultivates 'health tourism' for new image as a spa destination

Article Abstract:

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is promoting Thailand as a place for to go for its health spas and massages in an effort to replace the image of prostitution and sex to tourists. Over 9 million tourists traveled to Thailand last year, and that number is expected to rise 10% this year, making tourism one of Thailand's primary foreign income sources.

Thaksin's policies may benefit Thailand's telecom sector

Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is expected to carry out policies in the telecommunications sector that will help influence growth. Although investing in Thailand's telecommunications market may be risky, Mr. Thaksin's connections and background in the industry could help boost the economy.

Thai cellular war heats up

Article Abstract:

Thailand's two leading cellular telephone services providers, Advanced Info Service PCL and Total Access Communications PCL, are offering discounted pricing to increase market share and head off new competitor CP-Orange. The number of cellular telephone users in Thailand is up 47% to 5.3 million compared to last year and growth is forecasted to continue. Revenue per-unit, however, is declining due to to the increased competition, but profits for both companies are solid with Advanced Info reporting a 4.6 billion baht profit for the six months ending June 30, and Total Access reporting a 1.4 billion baht profit for the same period.
