The eastern front: Russian military deployment in Asia sparks concern

Article Abstract:

Asia and US military strategists are worried that the balance of power in the region may be seriously affected by Russia's military redeployment in the Far East. Russia's military strength in the Far East may be cut down from 3 million to about 1.5 million troops by the end of the century because Russia is trying to relocate forces returning from Europe. Russia's defense budget has been scaled down and the Pacific Fleet has been reduced by 79%. Meanwhile, an alarming quantity of arms is reaching the Far East from European Russia.

Developed countries however, particularly the Western world, are indignant and they are poised to ask the UN for economic sanctions against North Korea.
