The learning home

Article Abstract:

Home automation has not become widely popular, and this may be because of a need to reprogram devices, but University of Colorado's Michael Mozer argues that this could change if houses could program themselves. He has developed such a system, together with his students, using neural networks that anticipate his needs through having learnt about his habits. Each neural network controls one part of Mozer's domestic economy. The system is able to make intelligent decisions even when his schedule is irregular.

Machines with a human touch

Article Abstract:

'Neuromorphic' engineering is a new approach towards artificial intelligence which produces machines which function in the same way as the human brain. Neuromorphic systems are pure analog machines, giving faster, smaller, more energy-efficient robots.
