The temple of good fortune: after a brief scare in America's courts, Lloyd's of London has won approval for a much-needed settlement plan

Article Abstract:

A US appeals court ruled that any Lloyd's of London names who wish to pursue legal action against the insurer must file such actions in British courts. The ruling means that about 3,000 names will become part of the settlement. It will also allow the company to begin rebuilding.

The global reinsurance industry is undergoing a consolidation, as acquisitions and mergers in the industry are occurring quickly. The biggest deal was the acquisition by Munich Re, the world's biggest reinsurance company, of American Re for $3.3 billion.
