Top Shell officials spared for lack of ties to woes: current chairman and CFO said not to have realized extent of reserve problems

Royal Dutch-Shell Group of Cos. board members declined to include two executives in a management personnel purge after concluding the two did not know the magnitude of the company's reserve accounting. Chairman Jeroen van der Veer and Chief Financial Officer Judy Boynton had been assured by senior managers that the situation was under control.

Shell boards probe managers' bonuses: directors weigh whether incentives played a part in restatement of reserves

Article Abstract:

The Royal Dutch-Shell Group of Cos. boards are investigating whether corporate bonus and incentive programs pressured managers to overstate the firm's petroleum reserves. Company sources have said, however, that reserves never directly affected compensation.
