Toyota tries to boost local sales of 2 U.S.-made models

Article Abstract:

The Toyota Motor Corp. of Japan is attempting to increase sales of the US-manufactured Cavalier and Avalon automobiles to bring down the country's auto-trade surplus. While both cars are built in the US, the Cavalier is manufactured by General Motors Corp. and is sold under the Toyota name in Japan. The Avalon sedans are manufactured in the firm's assembly plant in Kentucky. The sales quotas of both automobiles have not been met due to an increase in consumption taxes and the regional currency crisis which has decreased consumer demand.
