Tractors for votes in Peru

Article Abstract:

Peruvian president, Albert Fujimori, is preparing for presidential elections scheduled for April 2000. Voters are concerned about their incomes and jobs, and Fujomori has changed his views on privatizations in response to this, and has decided against a number of sell-offs. Peru has been hit by low export prices and has seen a drop in output, with a rise in unemployment. Public spending has been increased, but fiscal austerity may be imposed if Fujimori wins in April 2000.
